Aisenryou Children’s Home is part of the Ainoizumi Social Welfare group, which runs several facilities, including a kindergarten of 140 children, after-school care, and senior housing. There are about 88 children between the ages of 2-18. This was Playground of Hope’s first project with Aisenryou, and the first location to be involved with our new program, the Real Life Learning Curriculum (RLLC). The RLLC is a program which gets the children involved in the planning and preparation of a PoH build and event. It was created to answer the need for financial and life skill training at children’s homes. The RLLC at Aisenryou was tied into building a new play set to commemorate the group’s 70th year anniversary.
A committee of children in the RLLC helped install the play set, as well as organize an opening ceremony together with PoH and volunteers from Tokyo Star Bank, Bloomberg and Bullseyes Tokyo. It was a rewarding experience for everyone involved.
