Yoshida Hoikuen, located in the Hebita District, has been running for 46 years and was opened by the parents of the current principal, Mr. Yoshida. He took over from his parents when they passed away in 1996. He is in his late fifties or early sixties, but uncharacteristically dresses down in jeans and a down vest.
He says that it’s so that he can play with the kids and get dirty. The school received minor water damage from the Tsunami, with the water coming to about 45 centimeters. The outside deck received water damage, so in addition to a new playset, volunteers and the local community came together to repair the damaged deck and also give it a fresh coat of paint.
