Kamaishi is a very hilly city. Flat, developable land outside the tsunami zone is in great demand and expensive. As a result, suitable “park”, locations were extremely difficult to find. Thankfully, a Shinto priest, Fuji-san ,and his wife, have turned their farm land into a community space called Cosmos.

Here both children and elderly residents gather together for various workshops, school trips, etc. to learn about organic gardening, brick-oven bread/pizza making, playing and more! Located near several large temporary housing neighborhoods, specifically, Ohata, Kashi and Matsukura (housing over 1,000 residents) Cosmos Organic Farm was a magical and ideal setting for a Playground of Hope installation.

Thanks once again to a very generous donation from our friends at the NEWAYS Foundation in Japan the Playground of Hope was able to build one of our most beautiful locations to date. The highlights of this installation was a special Shinto ceremony to bring safety and well-being to the play set and all who use it and a wonderful event with homemade, brick oven pizza, live music and lots of smiles!
